Beyond Words is a commissioned film created for The Australian Ballet to mark its 60-year legacy and evolving artistic vision. Developed in collaboration with the agency Thinkerbell, the work uses a mixed-media approach to bridge archival history and contemporary performance, celebrating the company’s depth of craft and embodied practice.

The project was conceived around a bespoke visual device inspired by Eadweard Muybridge’s zoopraxiscope, reimagined to animate six decades of ballet imagery across live movement. Filmed primarily at Melbourne’s State Theatre during an active performance season, the production required careful integration of crane, Steadicam, slider and handheld cinematography to support both archival integration and contemporary dance performance.
